Through the woods...

I am proud to say that both Hutch and Anniston have eaten peanut products with no problems. I am SOOO excited since they were both high risk to be allergic to them. Hutch due to his history of eczema and asthma diagnosis and Anniston due to her previous milk protein intolerance and eczema. I love anything with peanuts/peanut butter in it and it has been SO hard to keep it away from them, so much so that for the past 2 years since they started table foods I haven't eaten anything with nut products in it around them since they want to take share everything with me. And I have always had to watch them like a hawk to make sure no one else gave them anything with a nut in it either. Their pediatric allergist told me to wait until they were 3 years old before trying nuts but since they just started school and will probably eat someone elses food with nuts in it somewhere along the way, I wanted to be there when they had it the first time. Just in case.

Being the OCD, paranoid, overprotective, crazy, responsible mother that I am, we were in the parking lot of the hospital when giving them their first taste of peanut butter....in the form of Reeses Pieces - MyMy's idea. They have had it a couple other times since then too. While we are not out of the woods, we've at least made it into the woods and are on our way out. Our only issue left to try to correct is Anniston's lactose intolerance. I'm working on it slowly to try to prevent any tummy aches. I can't bear to hear her say one more time "mommy my tummy hurts." I've been told to give her milk products at increasing amounts to teach her body to make lactose but the poor thing can't even handle one ounce a day of regular milk. It gives her a tummy ache. So this issue is hard. Any suggestions would be VERY welcome!!
